The Land of P
Starting Lineup
I'm in a fantasy baseball league called Sandlot, where I'm part of the Styuvesant Baseball League. My team, the Novosibirsk Dildii-Wielding Wallabies is currently in second place, but with my two stars Mo Vaughn and Larry Walker coming back from injuries recently, the standing should improve a LOT.

My pitching staff is currently first in the league, anchored by starters John Smoltz and Pedro Martinez, as well as closers Ugueth Urbina and Roberto Hernandez.

My starting lineup:

C Todd Hundley - Dodgers
C Dave Nilsson - Brewers
1B Mo Vaughn - Angels
2B Eric Young - Dodgers
SS Nomar Garciaparra - Red Sox
3B David Bell - Mariners
OF Larry Walker - Rockies
OF Manny Ramirez - Indians
OF Raul Mondesi - Dodgers
UT (IF) Mark Grace - Cubs
UT (OF) David Justice - Indians

Starting Rotation:

Pedro Martinez - Red Sox
John Smoltz - Braves
Andy Pettite - Yankees
Brad Radke - Twins
Rick Helling - Rangers

Relievers:

Jeff Brantley - Phillies
Jeff Zimmerman - Rangers
Roberto Hernandez - Devil Rays
Ugueth Urbina - Expos

Bench:

3B Travis Fryman - Indians
SP Sterling Hitchcock - Padres
SP Steve Avery - Reds
SP Jon Lieber - Cubs
SP Freddy Garcia - Mariners
Transactions
5/3/1999

Jeff Brantley has been waived as announced, and Jeff Zimmerman signed.

5/4/1999

In addition, C/1B/OF Dave Nilsson has been waived, along with OF Lance Johnson, and I have signed Free Agents C Phil Nevin and C/OF Todd Hundley.

The trade that would trade Craig Biggio for Raul Mondesi has been finalized. Finally, RP Dave Veres has been signed to fill out the roster.

This will add a lot more options. Eric Young will move to 2B from UT (IF) and either Todd Zeile or Mark Grace will play UT (IF). Mike Cameron will be moved to the bench, where he will be the fifth OF behind Hundley, Mondesi, Ramirez and Walker.

A minor injury to Eric Young has placed him on the bench for a while. He pulled a hamstring while stealing a base in the first inning of yesterday's Dodgers game. He will be replaced at UT (IF) by 1B Mark Clark. Clark averages a VERY healthy 3.6 ppg, so he should do fine.

5/5/1999

Since Craig Biggio has been traded, and Eric Young is injured and unable to play for several days, I have waived 3B Todd Zeile and signed 2B/3B David Bell. He will play second while Young is out. When he returns, he may be waived, or may stay to back up Young and Fryman. He is averaging 3.2 points to Zeile's 2.8 so it will work out well, probably.

Dave Veres has been waived, and Rolando Arrojo has been signed.

5/6/1999

C Phil Nevin and OF Mike Cameron have been waived, the former because Jim Leyritz has returned form injury, and the second because of a dip in point production. Todd Hundley has been moved from UT(OF) to C, with newly signed Tom Goodwin now at UT(OF). Rolando Arrojo has been waived after making a start, and Kevin Tapani signed. I have also been working on a contract with Shawon Dunston.

5/13/1999

In recent days, I have waived C Michael Barrett, OF Tom Goodwin, SP Kevin Tapani and Jeff Weaver, and signed 1B Fred McGriff, SP Masato Yoshii, SP Jon Lieber and OF Richard Hidalgo.

With Eric Young back from injury, I had a problem. His replacement, David Bell was on a hot streak, and I couldn't take him out of the lineup. But Young had to play too... so I took advantage of the fact that David Bell can also play 3B, and put him there, benching the slightly slumping Travis Fryman. Fryman, Mark Grace and Fred McGriff will compete for the UT (IF) spot daily, depending on who's hot and who's the opposing starter.

5/17/1999

1B Fred McGriff has been traded for OF David Justice. My 1B was overloaded, and the streaking Justice I hope will provide for me that solid 4th outfielder I have needed for a while.
OF Richard Hidalgo has been waived, and the red-hot C/1B/OF Dave Nilsson has been signed.

SP Masato Yoshii has been waived, and RP Jeff Brantley, back from the DL, has been resigned.

Finally, I have been working on a trade that would bring here C Jason Kendall and 2B/OF Tony Phillips for SP's Brad Radke and Freddy Garcia, along with OF David Justice. If this was to work out, then either Todd Hundley or Dave Nilsson will be moved. Kendall will start at C and whichever one of the two I have left will start at UT (OF) behind Mondesi, Ramirez and Walker.
Latest News
I have realized that I have too many SP and if I don't get rid of some I will run out of starts. I am hoping that the deal which will trade away Radke and Garcia will go through. Even if that happens, I will still move two more SP, most likely Rich Helling and Jon Lieber, leaving me 5 starters: Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz, Andy Pettite, Sterling Hitchcock and Steve Avery.
